Application of porous ceramics for the handling of cryogenic media in space

The overall aim of this project is to advance the knowledge about the behaviour of cryogenic media in porous ceramic materials and thereby contributing to solve the challenges regarding handling of cryogenic fuel in space environment. The investigation of cryogenic media in porous ceramic is an unexplored research field with potential of being highly innovative. The research effort is on improving the pore structure and surface characteristics of hybrid ceramic and ceramic materials for wicking and transport processes, including mass and energy transport. Simulation will help developing an understanding of the transport processes and therefore to allow for optimisation of the aforementioned material properties.
